It’s time for the Bettendorf Chamber annual membership drive and this year we are going to do things a little different!

I know the first thing you are thinking, “What is the grand prize?” Well, I will tell you. The grand prize this year is a weekend stay at the brand new Staybridge Suites. The package includes a non smoking studio suite for 2 (equipped with at full size refrigerator, microwave, stove top, dishwasher and place setting for four, and a DVD player) for a Friday and Saturday night. The room will include the breakfast buffet, indoor pool and whirlpool, exercise facility, complimentary guest laundry, 24-hour business center, and complimentary wireless internet.

Now, how do you win this great prize? It’s easy! Give us referrals!!!!

Simply talk to your clients, contacts, friends, etc. and tell them why you belong to the Bettendorf Chamber of Commerce. Tell them about the networking, the opportunity for free and inexpensive advertising, committees, referrals. If they are interested, give them my number or call me and I will contact them. For every new member your refer, you will be one step closer to the prize. Whoever brings in the most new members with paid dues will win the weekend stay at Staybridge Suites.

WINE TASTING BENEFITS HABITAT
HyVee Food Store at 2900 Devils Glen Road in Bettendorf is the place to be on Friday, November 17th from 5:30 to 8 p.m. to taste some fine wines, enjoy delicious appetizers and raise funds to help Habitat for Humanity – Quad Cities build simple, decent, affordable homes for families in need.

Tickets to the charity wine tasting event cost $10 per person and are available at the Bettendorf HyVee, at Habitat ReStore, 3629 Mississippi Avenue in Davenport, and at Habitat for Humanity – Quad Cities administrative offices, located at 2235 Grant Street, Bettendorf. All proceeds from wine tasting ticket sales benefit Habitat for Humanity – Quad Cities.

Guests at the wine tasting will receive a 15% discount on purchases made during the event.

RICK’S HOUSE OF HOPE OFFERS PROGRAM FOR FAMILIES FACING STRESS DURING THE HOLIDAYS
A changing family situation can make the holidays difficult, especially with young children in the home.

Rick’s House of Hope is offering Handling The Holidays for Families With Young Children on Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. The program is geared for families facing stress because of death or divorce.

The registration deadline is Nov. 9 and space is limited. For further information, or to register, call Rick’s House of Hope at (563) 324-9580.

Rick’s House of Hope is a grief and trauma recovery center for children and adolescents. Rick’s House of Hope is affiliated with the Genesis Spiritual Care Department. Rick’s House of Hope is located at 4867 Forest Grove Dr., Bettendorf.

PEOPLE TO PEOPLE EXPO AT THE BETTENDORF PUBLIC LIBRARY
Recreation, Park & Tourism Administration (RPTA) students at Western Illinois University-Quad Cities Campus are preparing to host the third annual “People to People Expo”. The expo will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2006, from 3:00-6:00 pm in the Bettendorf Room, Bettendorf Public Library, 2950 Learning Campus Drive at 18th Street, Bettendorf, Iowa.

The purpose of this event is to bring agencies together to facilitate volunteer and networking opportunities. People to People offers the Quad City community the opportunity to recruit volunteers while building relationships with local organizations.

There are three ways to participate in the “People to People Expo”. You may select to become a sponsor, vendor and/or contributor. Enclosed is the application for each opportunity with an explanation of the sponsorship levels.

SCORE SMALL BUSINESS WORKSHOP
The Quad Cities SCORE Chapter, “Counselors to America’s Small Business”, is pleased to announce its November 11, 2006 Small Business Workshop. This Workshop will be held at the Illinois Quad City Chamber of Commerce, 622-19th Street, Moline, IL

The workshop will cover crucial material for planning a start-up business or provide guidance to an existing or expanding business. SCORE® counselors will guide attendees through the most frequently asked questions.

Registration: Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 8:45 A.M.
Workshop hours: 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
Workshop Fee: $40.00 per person in advance, ($20.00 for each additional person in the same business group). The fee includes lunch and beverage.

AUSA SYMPOSIUM, ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL – SUPPORT THE ARMY’S TRANSFORMATION
The Rock Island Arsenal Chapter of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) is presenting a two day Educational Symposium November 15-16 at the Radisson Quad City Plaza in Davenport, Iowa intended to educate businesses and community members with changes occurring on Arsenal Island. The session is also designed to educate Arsenal personnel with what local communities are doing to welcome new commands, soldiers, civilians, contractors and their families to the Quad City area.

Come and join us as we get the latest information as about the new Headquarters due to join others here at the Arsenal. The cost to attend is $180.00 for chamber members. This symposium will also inform you about changes occurring on the Arsenal with the current commands and how each will continue to support Army soldiers around the world while fighting the Global War on Terrorism. At the same time, this session will also give area business leaders information on how they can assist these commands with new business opportunities.

All students (with their parents) that are attending Bettendorf or Pleasant Valley High School and are interested in a career in business should attend this “Career Night”. General information about skills needed to be successful in business will be provided. Specific career breakout sessions will also be available. Careers which will be highlighted include: Hospitality – hotel/motel management and restaurant management, Finance- banking and financial planning, Sales and Marketing, Computer Programming- including computer technicians and web-design, Retail management, Public Relations, and Entrepreneurship.

The schedule events is as follows.
6:30-7:00 – Keynote
7:10-7:30 – Breakout I
7:40 – 8:00 – Breakout II

CHIROPRACTORS JOIN TOYS FOR TOTS
Family Practice chiropractors across the country are banding together this Christmas is support of the 55th annual U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaign for needs children. During the month of December, many of the nation’s over 60,000 chiropractors will be holding ”Toys for Tots” service days in an effort to provide hope, joy and much-needed free health services for our nation’s most valuable resource – our children.

On December 14, Caras Chiropractic and Performance Center will host a “Toys for Tots” Day. The public is invited to attend between 9am and 6:30 pm and take advantage of free health and wellness information, free spinal screenings and chiropractic care. New, unwrapped toys will be collected at the door through December 20. The toys will then be distributed by the U.S. Marine Corps between December 22 and December 24 to the delight of hundreds of Quad City children.
